External thermal insulation system: The key parts

Problem

ETICS systems where in the Greek language it is translated as Composite external thermal insulation systems can be applied in both old and new constructions. They offer a complete energy upgrade of the building while renovating the facades of the buildings which is equally important.

External thermal insulation systems to be certified must bear the appropriate CE and ETAG 004 markings and consist of individual materials that work harmoniously together as a body-system.

Uncertified bonding of materials can cause unpredictable and undesirable results.

Solution

Solution

MARMOLINE MONOSIS is a complete, certified external thermal insulation composite system of buildings (old and new), suitable for the special Greek climatic conditions, due to which in many parts of the country we have intense cold in winter and a lot of heat in summer. In many parts of Greece, the annual temperature variation (min – max) on the outer surface of the wall can exceed 60 ° C, resulting the need for special building materials that can withstand and perform in this temperature range.

Application steps

Application of adhesive mortar

Once we have selected the appropriate thermal insulation boards for our construction, the adhesive FK 201 or FK 203 or THERMOWHITE by MARMOLINE should be applied by an automatic press machine available by MARMOLINE, or by hand, around the surface of the insulation board, in a stripe about 5 cm wide. Apply at least 3 pellets inside. The installation of the insulation boards must be precise and flat. For this reason, the uniformity and flatness of the surface should be checked at regular intervals with special attention especially at the corners. Joints displacement must be avoided. If there are stability problems in the insulation boards, they must be smoothed with a suitable sander.

Installation of thermal insulation boards

The thermal insulation boards must be placed from bottom to top next to each other and with displaced joints (way of brick construction). If there are gaps between the boards then they should be filled with a special low-expansion foam THERMOFOAM 2 SEAL of MARMOLINE.

Anchoring

After the adhesive has hardened, it is recommended to make additional mechanical fastening support -with the special plastic anchors, length depending on the type and thickness of the board, available by MARMOLINE (6 pieces / m²). This is followed by the plastering of the anchor plate holes.

Installation of basic coating and application of fiberglass mesh

Apply the fiber-reinforced base coat FK 202 or FK 204 or THERMOWHITE or FK 202 ORGANIC of MARMOLINE universally with a notched trowel in sections> 1 m wide and about 3 mm thick on the entire surface of the board. Then, place the mesh M160 of MARMOLINE weighing 160 gr / m² in the wet coating by pressing it with a smooth spatula. We make sure that each strip of mesh should overlap the next on both sides by 10cm in order to uniformly distribute stresses.

Then apply a second layer of FK 202 or FK 204 or THERMOWHITE or FK 202 ORGANIC  so that the fiberglass mesh is completely covered. The mesh must not be visible. Also the mesh will overlap the special pieces of edge reinforcement (angle caps, drippers).

Application of final coating

Depending on the type of final coating, the suitable primer must be used. You must apply the primer at least 15 days after the basic coat. Apply the acrylic primer MST 11 of MARMOLINE diluted 30% with water. Then apply the MARMOLINE SVR final coloured coatings. Alternatively, for areas with high humidity and environmental pollution, apply MARMOLINE SVR SILRONE available in hundreds of colours.
