What happened if the painted surface showed swelling/ blistering

Problem

When you see blisters or bubbles in the colour, you are faced with the “Blistering” effect. In other words, the formation of “bubbles” on the outer decorative paint film results from a local loss of adhesion and is followed by the lifting of the existing paint film from the underlying surface. Bubbles can be either dry or liquid.

Cause

This cause is not due to the colour itself but to the conditions of the substrate. The surface was probably painted at a temperature higher than 35 degrees Celsius. Also another cause can be the incoming moisture in the wall from the outside environment (terrace, soil with a high percentage of moisture, lawn, etc.).

Solution

  • Break the blisters. If it is in the last coat of paint, it is probably due to the temperature factor.
  • If it is in more than one coat of paint, it is probably due to the moisture factor.

In case of temperature:

  • Scrape the surface until the previous healthy layer or primer is exposed.
  • Repaint the surface with SUPER PAINT, at suitable temperature and humidity conditions.

In case of humidity:

  • Rubbing the surface.
  • Apply the acrylic putty STUCCO BIANCO.
  • Priming of the surface with the micronized primer MST 11.
  • Repaint the surface with SUPER PAINT (exterior) or FLYING COLORS INTERIOR (interior).

* Re-painting should be done when the remaining moisture on the surface is the minimum possible (from May to October).
