Problem
In a renovation, we usually want to adopt something different from the style we had before. And that is why more often we look for new trends in decoration on walls, floors and objects. We can easily and economically create coloured decorative surfaces. In the kitchen renovation, for example, the kitchen counter, which is one of the protagonists of the change, can be transformed immediately, giving the space a modern aesthetic and simplicity.
Solution
A new proposal in the renovation of surfaces is decorative micro-cement. Not only on floors and walls. But also in objects, such as built-in furniture, tables, chairs, beds and kitchen counters. With the VELVET DECO SUPERIA decorative micro-cement system we can enjoy a renewed final space with unique textures and shades.
What is Decorative Micro-cement Mortar VELVET DECO SUPERIA
The application of the ready-to-use resin mortar system based on the white cement of high strength VELVET DECO SUPERIA, with the special granulometry, carefully selected aggregates and improving additives, is ideal for many applications both on smooth concrete surfaces and on old surfaces, old tile, old mosaics, old layers of marble, plaster, but also outdoors, in bathrooms – stairs – kitchens – built-in beds – showers, etc.
It offers a smooth finish, with a velvety texture and is the good choice of architects and decorators for a variety of applications, both indoors and outdoors.
The system consists of the following materials:
1 FLEX: Elastic base for cement mortar
2 RESIN: Resin
3 FINISH: Final thin layer
Method of Application
Cleaning
Our bench must initially be dry and clean of dust, oils, loose materials, etc. It is recommended for wood surfaces to be lightly sanded with sandpaper to enhance the adhesion of the material.
Priming
Before applying the decorative cement mortar MARMOLINE VELVET DECO SUPERIA, we apply the quartz primer MARMOLINE PRO CONTACT. For the application we will need 200 – 300 gr / m². Wait for it to dry well for about 2 hours.
Coloration-painting
The natural MARMOLINE POWDER COLOR pigments are used for the painting of the final layer (3 FINISH). The pigment powder must first be dissolved by itself in the amount of pure water that will be used to mix the materials. For the amount of pigment that you will use, see the instructions of POWDER COLOR. Mix the cement mortar gradually, with the amount of water painted with POWDER COLOR, using a low speed drill, until you achieve a homogeneous thin fluid mass without lumps and with the desired workability.
Mixing water 3 FINISH: 8 kg / bag 20 kg.
It is recommended in this application, the amount of water up to 30%, to be replaced with resin to enhance the strength and elasticity of the surface.
Application
Apply the 1 FLEX base using a notched trowel (6mm) and with a use of a fiberglass mesh weighting 60 gr / m². The mesh is spread on the fresh layer of the material and pressed with a smooth spatula. Make sure that the strips of the mesh overlap by 10 cm. It is necessary to press the material well so that no air remains trapped inside it. Material 3 FINISH is used as a second layer, the size of a grain, and must completely cover the fiberglass.
Between the two layers, the application of primer MARMOLINE MST 22 is recommended, after the first layer has hardened, has been sanded with fine sandpaper and has been wiped.
For the shaping of the final surface, the final layer 3 FINISH is used, in one or two more layers, the size of the grain.
In each layer and when it is still fresh, the material must be pressed. Pressing on the final surface gives the “shadows” that characterize a pressed cement mortar, so its intensity must be proportional to the final desired result.
The final surface, after hardening, can be sanded with very fine sandpaper to further smooth it, depending on the desired result.
Polish
After the cement mortar dries well, clean the surface dry with a vacuum cleaner to remove the dust and apply until saturated either the transparent water varnish MARMOLINE VELVET LIQUID S or the polyurethane MARMOLINE VELVET LIQUID P.U.
For MARMOLINE VELVET LIQUID S varnish, apply the transparent water primer MARMOLINE VELVET PRIMER.
For the varnish MARMOLINE VELVET LIQUID P.U. It is recommended to apply the transparent silicone sealant MARMOLINE MS 33.
Caution!
MARMOLINE VELVET LIQUID P.U. may change the final colour of the cement mortar (darker). With the application MARMOLINE MS 33 this is significantly reduced. In any case, it is recommended to make a test application on a small area to evaluate the result before a general application on the entire surface.
TIPS
- The VELVET DECO SUPERIA system must be applied only by experienced technicians and in full compliance with the application instructions of the system, as stated on its packaging, on the website and in the technical brochure of the product.
- For colour suggestions, see Marmoline’s 50-color Velvet Deco Superia color palette.
- The last stage of the system application involves the selection of the final surface protection varnish. The choice must be made according to the requirements and exposure conditions of the pressed cement mortar.
